* Patricia Llombart, the European Union’s ambassador to Colombia, has unveiled a new European Union (EU) conservation and economic development programme for Colombia’s Amazonian region. During a public event in Colombia’s south-western Putumayo department, Llombart said that the €2.5m (US$2.8m) Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Alternatives for Putumayo programme is funded by the EU’s Trust Fund for Colombia, which supports social projects linked to the country’s peace process and its aim is to help small-scale economic producers and demobilised guerrillas in Putumayo by providing them with training and the transfer of technology. According to Llombart the programme will benefit some 2,000 people in Putumayo.
