* Brazilian meatpacking company JBS has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to sell beef, pork, and poultry in China, in an agreement which could be worth up to US$1.5bn over three years. JBS described the MoU as a “historic deal” and says that it represents the biggest ever deal between China and Brazil in its sector. Renato Costa, chief executive of JBS Beef Brazil, who signed the MoU with an executive from Alibaba subsidiary Win Chain while at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, notes that the deal will help expand JBS’s beef business in particular.
