In brief: Peru

* According to a new report by Peru’s foreign trade & tourism ministry (Mincetur), South Korea has become the third main market for Peru’s exports (after China and the US), with exports there totalling US$2.03bn in the first nine months of 2018, up 44.8% on the same period in 2017. Peru’s trade advisor in South Korea, Joan Manuel Barrena, said this increase stems from growing demand for natural gas and minerals as well as non-traditional products like cuttlefish and chestnuts. According to Barrena, non-traditional exports to South Korea were up 74% on the same period in 2017 to reach US$262m, with cuttlefish up 128% to reach US$121m, chestnuts up 116% to reach US$47m, and exports of mangos up 102% at US$15m.
