In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that tourism activity in the country increased by 2.3% in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period last year. Inegi highlights that the increase in tourism sector activity was driven by a 2.8% year-on-year increase in consumption by tourists in Mexico, while the services sold to foreign and national tourists (the largest component in the tourism sector GDP) increased by 1.5% year-on-year in the quarter. Last year Mexico's tourism GDP reached a new record of US$21bn but the latest Inegi data suggests that this figure will be surpassed this year.
