The 2018 presidential election: what happened, and what next?

From January 2019 to December 2022, Jair Bolsonaro of the Partido Social Liberal (PSL) will be the president of Brazil. The retired Army captain, 63, will be the 38th president of Brazil and the 8th since democratisation in 1985. He defeated Fernando Haddad of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) in the second round of the 2018 election, with 57m votes (55,13%), against 47 million from his adversary (44,87%).
