* Bolivia’s prosecutor general, Pablo Menacho Diederich, has said that the Bolivian state will only pay US$18m of the US$385m that South American Silver, the Canadian mining firm, is demanding in compensation for the cancellation of a mining concession. South American Silver has taken its case demanding compensation for the 2012 cancellation of its concession to exploit the Mallku Khota mine to the World Bank’s International Settlement for Investment Disputes (Icsid), which is currently studying the case. However, Menacho has said that Icsid has accepted all of Bolivia’s arguments that the compensation demanded by South American Silver was overvalued and that figure should be lower.
