* The Honduran permanent contingency commission (Copeco) has announced a donation of US$475,000 from the Taiwanese government as part of efforts to help those affected by recent rains and drought. The aid is part of an overall US$2.5m package targeting 145 municipalities (out of the country’s total of 298) in the so-called 'Dry Corridor' (a tropical dry forest region on the Pacific side of Central America). In Central America, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua continue to maintain ties with Taiwan. Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Panama have switched to mainland China – El Salvador, most recently in August 2018.
