* Lightsource BP, Europe’s largest solar developer, part-owned by British oil company BP, is expanding into the Brazilian energy market where solar power is currently underdeveloped. Lightsource BP will focus on developing solar and smart storage solutions for Brazil’s domestic, commercial, and industrial sector, while simultaneously developing a pipeline of greenfield solar projects. Mario Lindenhayn, head of country, BP Brazil, notes that BP’s Energy Outlook sees Brazil’s energy consumption growing by 60% by 2040, with the share of renewables within this expected to grow by 47%. Over 40% of Brazil’s energy consumption comes from renewable sources already (primarily hydro), for which Spencer Dale, BP chief economist, called Brazil an example for the world.
