* In one of his last acts as president Mexico’s now former president, Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-December 2018), signed the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade accord that is to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) pending ratification by the respective legislatures of the three countries. Peña Nieto signed the USMCA in tandem with US President Donald Trump and Canada’s Prime Minster Justin Trudeau on the side lines of the G-20 heads of state summit held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 30 November-1 December. After signing the agreement, Peña Nieto said that it should lead to increased economic and social integration across the three North American countries.
