In brief: Uruguay

* Uruguay has signed an agreement which will allow it to export meat, maize, and barley to China. The agreement on phytosanitary requirements was signed when Uruguay’s President Tabaré Vázquez received an official delegation led by China's customs minister, Ni Yuefeng, in Montevideo. Uruguay’s agriculture minister, Enzo Benech, noted that the country is deepening its commercial ties with China, its principal trade partner. The new agreement will serve to boost Uruguayan exports, which fell by 9.8% in November (compared to the same month last year), according to Uruguay XXI, the national export promotion agency.
