* A Brazilian federal judge from a São Paulo court has ordered the temporary suspension of the Boeing-Embraer merger deal. The US$4.75bn deal between US aerospace giant Boeing and Brazil’s Embraer, the world’s third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer, was reached in July but is yet to be signed off by the Brazilian executive. The injunction was initially requested by legislators from the leftist Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) and granted on the grounds that potentially irreversible “concrete actions” should be avoided while the judiciary is in recess and the country sees a change of government. The temporary injunction essentially means that outgoing President Michel Temer will not be able to close the deal before he leaves office. President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, who takes over on 1 January 2019, has indicated that he is in favour of closing the deal.
