* The Paraguayan chamber of maquiladora firms (Cemap) has reported that national maquila exports between January and November have totalled US$637m, a 55% increase compared with the same period last year. Cemap president, Carina Daher, said that the export figures suggest that this could be one of the most successful years for the sector, which had set itself the goal of exporting US$600m this year. Daher also highlighted that the strong demand for the exports has allowed the sector to create 2,300 new jobs in 2018. As for the type of exports, Daher noted that car parts accounted for 50% of all maquila exports while textiles accounted for 22%, with plastic goods and leather goods making up the remainder.
