LatinNews Regional Monitor: Brazil & Southern Cone - 12 December 2018

In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has announced that the country exported 3.68m sacks of coffee (one sack = 60kg) in November. This represents a 24.4% year-on-year increase and a 6.1% monthly decrease in the total volume of coffee exported. Revenue totalled US$485m in November, a 1% year-on-year decrease which reflects the falling price of coffee globally. In January-November 2018, Brazil exported a total of 31.4m sacks of coffee generating US$4.55bn in revenue – a 12.5% increase in export volumes and a 3.9% decrease in revenue compared to the same period in 2017. Exports are driven in part by an increase in sales of robusta coffee (which increased 541.1% in November compared to last year), although arabica coffee makes up the majority of Brazil’s coffee sales (86.5% of total November exports).
