* Costa Rica’s foreign minister Epsy Campbell has resigned following an investigation into the process by which she appointed certain officials in the foreign ministry. In the post since May 2018, when the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) government led by President Carlos Alvarado took office, Campbell had been facing scrutiny over the appointment of a director and a sub-director of foreign affairs (Adriana Murillo Ruin and Carolina Fernández Álvarez, respectively) who did not previously hold the rank of ambassador, a legal requirement. Campbell, who was Costa Rica’s first female foreign minister, will continue in her role as First Vice President. President Alvarado has yet to name a replacement.
