ECUADOR: Third time lucky for Moreno?

Ecuador has its third vice president in 19 months. The national assembly appointed Otto Sonnenholzner Sper as vice-president on 11 December to replace María Alejandra Vicuña, who had tendered her irrevocable resignation a week earlier. Vicuña had bowed to pressure brought to bear by opposition legislators after receiving decidedly lukewarm support from President Lenín Moreno as she sought to fend off allegations of soliciting irregular payments, while she had been serving as a deputy in the national assembly (2011-2013), as a condition of employment for advisers.
