BOLIVIA: Morales gets (another) green light

Bolivia’s electoral authorities (TSE) last week officially authorised President Evo Morales to run in the presidential election in October 2019. The TSE’s ruling was not a surprise given the decision by the constitutional court (TCP) the previous year in favour of Morales who took office in 2006. However, it has provoked widespread protests – indicative of the polarisation that has afflicted Bolivia since the February 2016 referendum which rejected (by 51.30%-48.70%) changing the 2009 constitution to allow Morales to seek a further term.
