* Mexico’s federal chamber of deputies has formally ratified the appointment of Carlos Urzúa as the new head of the finance ministry (SHCP). Urzúa, who had been appointed to the post by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador when he assumed office on 1 December, is the first SHCP head to require ratification by the chamber of deputies following the introduction of this provision in the 2014 political reform. Following his ratification Urzúa said that his immediate priority is to finalise the government’s 2019 draft budget proposal, which is due to be delivered to congress by 15 December.
