The possibility of decriminalising abortion in Mexico
In October 2018 federal deputy Silvia Lorena Villavicencio Ayala, of Mexico’s ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party, presented an initiative before congress that seeks to decriminalise abortion at the federal level. The initiative proposes the legalisation of safe abortion procedures across the country with the objective of protecting the health and safety of women all around Mexico. It denounces that the current legislation infringes women’s reproductive and sexual rights.
