* Juan Villafuerte, a leader of the Sindicato de Jornaleros y Obreros Industriales y de La Industria Maquiladora (SJOIIM) workers’ union, has announced that 19 companies have agreed to meet the salary and bonus demands of union members, with a further 20 companies still negotiating. The SJOIIM had been demanding a 20% salary increase and an annual bonus of MEX$32,251 (US$ 1,693). On 25 January, over 30,000 workers at factories in Matamoros city, Tamaulipas state, went on strike.
