López Obrador takes on Mexico’s fuel thieves

Oil-rich Mexico has long had a complicated relationship with its reserves of ‘black gold’. Since ordering foreign oil companies out of the country after the 1910 revolution, Mexicans have developed a keen sense of oil as a treasured national possession. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador decided to make the oil industry a key strategic priority after taking office on 1 December 2018.
