REGION: Mexico changes tack on migration

On 25 January the US government said it was beginning to implement a new policy: sending asylum seekers back to Mexico while they await the processing of their cases. The measure is expected to mainly affect migrants from Central America. Previous Mexican governments resisted such an arrangement. But for the new administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador it appears to be part of a wider shift in migration policy.
