In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (IBGE) has released figures which show that retail sales in December 2018 fell by 2.2% month-on-month, after 'Black Friday' promotions led to a spike in November 2018. Overall annual results are positive however, as retail sales for the whole of 2018 grew by 2.3% year-on-year, the second consecutive yearly increase after the economic contraction of 2015-2016.
