In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s tourism minsitry (Sectur) has announced that the 'Tren Maya project' – a 1,525km railway that will link Palenque (Chiapas state) and the tourist resort of Cancún on the Caribbean coast - will be financed through a mixed investment scheme (public-private). According to a Sectur statement, the government will contribute around 10% of the entire budget, with the remainder to come from private companies. The statement also highlights that the project will “respect the environment and the communities of the native people”.  The project is expected to cost between US$6bn-US$8bn.
