Deadly Hantavirus outbreak in Argentina sparks concern

An outbreak of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), a rat-borne viral respiratory disease, has swept through areas of northern and southern Argentina, with 29 laboratory-confirmed cases recorded between October 2018 and 20 January 2019. At least 11 people have died from the infection in Argentina, prompting the World Health Organisation (WHO) to issue a warning for the areas affected.
