Export growth: On 22 January, Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) released new figures showing that the country’s exports reached US$61.62bn in 2018, up 5.1% on 2017, while imports reached US$65.44bn – a 2.2% decrease. This leaves a trade deficit of US$3.82bn – significantly less than the US$8.3bn trade deficit registered in 2017. As regards the main export markets, these were the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), which accounted for US$14bn of exports, followed by the European Union (EU) which accounted for US$9bn.
