* Costa Rica’s tourism institute (ICT) has released new figures which forecast a 9.2% increase in cruise ship arrivals in the 2018/2019 season compared with the previous season. So far 203 cruise ships have arrived in Costa Rica since 23 August (the start of the new season) with a further 46 expected for the remainder of the season. According to the ICT press release, cruise ship passengers spend an average of US$137 a day, which has an important impact on reactivating the local economy in coastal areas. Costa Rica is due to host the 5th Central America Cruise Summit later this year.
