In brief: Argentina, Chile

* Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri and Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera have jointly highlighted the importance of a recently ratified bilateral treaty, the Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE), for increasing opportunities for trade and investment between their two countries. This ACE adds to an existing trade treaty between Chile and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), of which Argentina is a member. The bilateral ACE promotes the exchange of goods, services and investments, eliminates roaming charges between Chile and Argentina, strengthens the role of women in international trade, and includes provisions to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to take part in public tenders. Presidents Macri and Piñera both celebrated the rapidity with which the agreement had been reached, a reflection of the deep and friendly ties between their two countries.
