* Costa Rica’s public water and sewerage utility AyA has announced the investment of nearly US$1bn into 112 different projects aiming to improve access to drinking water and sanitation across the country.  A new report released by the AyA states that 92.4% of the population have access to drinking water but only 15% to safe sanitation. The report also highlights the disparity between access to potable water in urban and rural areas, with access being at 96.37% and 84.39% respectively. In addition to the need for improved sanitation, the AyA together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has called for measures to tackle and reduce the effects of climate change on water sources.
