* Fancap, the workers’ union of Uruguay’s state-owned oil, petrol and alcohol company Administración Nacional de Combustibles, Alcoholes y Portland (Ancap), has announced a 24-hour strike to protest economic sanctions placed on them by Ancap. Speaking on a national news programme Telemundo, Fancap president Gerardo Rodríguez said that the conflict began when workers at Megal gas company refused to transport super gas due to insecure working conditions and were sanctioned as a consequence. Despite the 24-hour strike, Rodríguez promises that there will not be a shortage of fuel available to the public or to the airport services.
