López Obrador takes on ‘the 43’

More than four years have passed since 43 students were ‘disappeared’ in the town of Iguala, in Mexico’s Guerrero state, and still the students’ families are no closer to knowing what became of their loved ones. Now, Mexico’s new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has pledged to plough new resources into reopening previous lines of investigation and searching for new leads. López Obrador has promised to get to the bottom of the case “whatever the cost”, but his promises are about more than uncovering the truth.
