Cuba rejects short suspension of Helms-Burton Act Title III

Argentina: From 24-29 March, the US embassy in Argentina hosted a trade mission to the Southern Cone comprising US firms and organised by the US Department of Commerce. The mission also included a regional conference in Buenos Aires attended by more than 100 people, including representatives from Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and other countries in South America. The Commercial Section counsellor for the US Embassy in Argentina, Rick de Lambert, said “US companies feel encouraged by the economic reforms conducted in Argentina and the improvement of the rule of law in the country”, adding that the US wishes to be Argentina’s preferred partner when it comes to trade and investment. US goods and services trade with Argentina totalled US$26.3bn in 2017 on figures from the Office of the US Trade Representative while Argentina was the US’s 37th largest goods trading partner in that year, with US$14.4bn. The US Department of Commerce estimated that exports of goods and services to Argentina by the US supported 88,000 jobs in 2015.
