LatinNews Regional Monitor: Caribbean & Central America - 17 April 2019

In brief: Panama

* Panama’s Copa Airlines and Spain’s Air Europa have announced a new code-share agreement to take effect as of 3 June when Air Europa will launch a direct flight to Panama. The agreement (which allows them to jointly market and sell seats on a flight operated by the other airline) covers flights to and from the capitals of Costa Rica (San José), Nicaragua (Managua), El Salvador (San Salvador), and Guatemala (Guatemala City). It will also allow Air Europa access to the average of 350 daily flights operated by Copa Airlines through the Hub of the Americas, the hub of connections with the most international flights in the region. This is located at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport, from where it connects 80 cities in 32 countries of North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Meanwhile Air Europa will allow Copa Airlines access to 23 destinations in Spain and 15 in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Air Europa started its presence in Central America two years ago when it began flights to Honduras.
