* Brazil’s national supplies company (Conab) has announced that the country’s ethanol production will reach a record 33.14bn litres (l) for the period corresponding to the 2018-2019 crop. This is a 21.7% increase (5.9bn l) on the previous production period. Hydrous ethanol production will also reach a record 23.58bn l. Conab’s head of agribusiness information,
Cleverton Santana, attributes the increase in ethanol production to a combination of the fall in sugar prices on the international market and a favourable scenario for ethanol fuel in the domestic market, which led sugarcane producers to destine more of their crop to the production of ethanol rather than sugar.
