HAITI: End in sight for UN mission in Haiti

As expected, the United Nations (UN) Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (Minujusth) will end in October 2019, following a recent vote by the UN Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC’s vote comes despite major concerns about stability however, as Haiti is facing one of its worst political and social crises in years: protests against the government led by President Jovenel Moïse, which took place in February [WR-19-06] over the country’s deteriorating economic situation and public corruption, were recently described by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Michelle Bachelet as “the longest and most violent” in years.
