* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show that the national unemployment rate was 11.3% in the first quarter of 2019. While down from the 12% registered in the final quarter of 2018, this is up from 10.3% in first quarter of 2018. President Carlos Alvarado recently described unemployment as the “main problem” facing the country.
