BRAZIL: Education at risk?

Hundreds of secondary school and university students, as well as teachers, have taken to the streets this week in cities across Brazil to protest recently announced cuts to the country’s education system. There is concern that President Jair Bolsonaro and his education minister, Abraham Weintraub, are more focused on eradicating so-called ‘cultural Marxism’ and instilling military discipline in schools than on developing concrete policies aimed at effectively improving the country’s education system.
