* Ecuador’s public works ministry (MTOP) has launched the bidding process for the concession of the first phase of the train line (Tren Playero) connecting the ports of Posorja and Daule, both in Guayas province. MTOP minister Aurelio Hidalgo explained that the Tren Playero will have an investment of US$370.5m during construction and US$156.4m during operation and maintenance. The train is expected to be 400m in length and have the capacity to transport 600tonnes (t) of merchandise, travelling on average between 40km/h and 60km/h. Hidalgo said that the ministry was expecting to receive bids until 16 August, to decide on the bids by 9 October, with the contract to be signed on 9 November.
