Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that his government will be opening a state-run internet provider in order to provide those even in the most remote parts of the country with internet access. In a speech made in the El Nayar municipality of Nayarit state, President
López Obrador accused private companies of not extending their service to remote areas as it was not profitable. He declared that only 20% of Mexico’s land had internet coverage and pledged to rectify this: “
now the government will have its own company to communicate with all Mexicans over the internet. That’s a promise.”
