Belize: Next stop the ICJ

On 8 May, Belizeans voted 55.4% in favour of referring the country’s territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This will now happen as Guatemalans endorsed the same move in their own referendum in April 2018. The dispute covers around half of Belize’s territory, over which Guatemala claims sovereignty.
