In brief: El Salvador

* El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) has released new figures which show remittances totalled US$1.78bn in the first four months of 2019, up 3.9% on the same period in 2018. According to the BCR, the US remains the main source of remittances, accounting for 94.9% of the total. This was followed by Canada (0.9%) and Italy (0.4%). As regards El Salvador’s neighbours, remittances to Guatemala over the same period reached US$3.1bn (up 10.1%) while Honduras received US$1.65bn (up 10%).
