In brief: Ecuador

* Ecuador’s economy & finance minister Richard Martínez has hailed the fact that two months after Ecuador put in a request, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD’s) Development Centre has accepted it as a member. The OECD’s Development Centre is an independent platform for knowledge sharing and policy dialogue between OECD member states and developing countries, allowing these countries to interact on an equal footing. Following a meeting with OECD Secretary General Ángel Gurría, Martínez also said there was an interest on both sides in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on policies of “integrity and anti-corruption” and that efforts would begin in the second half of 2019 to carry out a multidimensional study of Ecuador which will be financed by the European Union and Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).
