Grappling with the CJNG
The authorities in Mexico and the US are grappling with what in recent years has emerged as the most powerful transnational drug trafficking organisation (DTO) – the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). Throughout the month of May, there have been various violent incidents involving the CJNG, but also successful operations against the DTO in both countries, as they try to fight back and reassert their authority. Yet in Mexico’s case, the scale of the challenge posed by the CJNG appears substantial.
