BARBADOS: Towards a new opposition party

In the May 2018 general election, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), led by then prime minister Freundel Stuart, lost all its seats in parliament to the Mia Mottley-led Barbados Labour Party (BLP). The challenge for the 64-year old party to return to contention, let alone power, has now increased further with the formation of a new opposition party by disaffected BLP members, exactly the same process – as it happens – by which the DLP was created in 1955.
