* According to the most recent figures from El Salvador’s central bank (BCR), remittances to El Salvador totalled US$2.28bn in the first five months of 2019, up 3.8% on the same period of 2018. The US remains the main source of remittances, accounting for US$2.17bn followed by Canada (US$20.6m), Italy (US$9.9m), and Spain (US$9.1m).
