In brief: Colombia

* The European statistical office (Eurostat) has released new figures which show bilateral trade between Colombia and the European Union (EU) grew by 8.1% during the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2018. Eurostat did not release absolute figures for the total. In 2018, bilateral trade reached a total of €11.1bn (US$12.5bn). Agriculture was the main area of growth. Colombia’s agriculture exports to the EU in the first quarter of 2019 were up 12.8%, compared with the same period in 2018, amounting to €635m. Meanwhile EU imports to Colombia were up 8% in the first quarter of 2019, with main imports consisting of machines and mechanical apparatus (€267m); pharmaceutical products (€216m); vehicles and parts (€171m); and electrical apparatus (€91m).
