* Panama’s economy & finance ministry (MEF) has released new figures which show that direct foreign investment (FDI) in the country came to a total of US$1.65bn in the first quarter of 2019, up 18.2% on the same period of 2018. The amount invested comes to 10.1% of the total nominal GDP for the first three months of 2019. In 2018, FDI reached US$5.55bn, up 21.4% on 2017. The MEF figures show that total direct foreign investment between 2014 and 2018 was US$24bn, over US$10bn more than for the previous five-year period.
