NICARAGUA: US and Canada seek to ratchet up pressure on Ortega
On 21 June, the US Department of the Treasury sanctioned a further four officials in ‘the inner circle’ of Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega, accused variously of violating the rights of opposition figures, promulgating repressive laws, silencing the media, and denying medical attention to injured protesters.
