In brief: Mexico

* The Mexican government has announced that it has raised a total of M$56.6m (US$2.96m) from the sale of assets seized from narcotraffickers. An official statement said that the money was raised via the sale during an auction of 27 real estate properties including houses, ranches, luxury apartments, and commercial properties, located in 11 different states. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that the proceeds from the auction will be used to support marginalised communities in the poor and violent regions of the country. The official press release explained that of the M$56.6m obtained, M$51.3m will be allocated to communities in La Montaña, Guerrero state; the remaining M$5.3m will be channelled to the fund established by the general law of victims (Fondo previsto en la Ley General de Víctimas) to help out victims of violence in Mexico.
