An assessment of Bolivia’s China strategy

With President Evo Morales and his Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) having marked their 13th year in office at the start of the year, we consider how far his anti-imperialism rhetoric has translated into action and whether it has resulted in Bolivia’s economic sovereignty, new dependent relations with rising actors, or something in between. In particular, we look at how, like much of Latin America, Bolivia has developed trade and financial ties with China although the particular case of Bolivia presents some unique features.
