* Julio Solórzano, the president of Guatemala’s electoral authority (TSE), has confirmed that former First Lady
Sandra Torres (2008-2012) of the opposition Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza (UNE) party and
Alejandro Giammattei of the right-wing Vamos party will take part in a presidential second-round run-off on 11 August. Solórzano's announcement ends uncertainty following the 16 June general election first-roudn vote after fraud allegations led the TSE to begin a vote recount on 24 June. According to the latest results, Torres took 1.12m votes or 25.4% of the valid vote while Giammattei took 608,083 (13.8%).
